Lucy Island
Lucy Island
Accessible only by boat, Lucy Island is known for its lighthouse, sea birds and archaeology.
It’s also a lovely spot for a picnic.
ABOUT LUCY ISLAND
Lucy Island (known as Lax Spinna "On Shoulders" in Sm'algyax) is now a provincially protected conservancy that contains some of the North Coasts oldest archaeological sites, a critical seabird nesting habitat, a lighthouse, a beautiful boardwalk trail and a single campsite with a tent pad and outhouse. And a rare sandy beach!
Lucy McNeill Moffat who the Islands were named after was the daughter of Hudson's Bay Company official William Henry McNeill and his wife Mathilda, a Kaigani (Alaskan) Haida Chief. Lucy was remembered as "Miraculously unfettered" by B.C Memoirist Helen Meilleur and as someone who was “so adaptable that she could occupy the VIP cabin aboard the Labouchere…and then set off in a canoe for weeks of weather-exposed travel to Indian villages.”
SCENT NOTES
Notes of Bergamot, Grapefruit and Orange Blossom evoke a warm cup of tea in a cozy light house, while the ambergris, amberwood and vetiver bring you back to the beach and the trails.
